Drink the drink of the people of purity! You will see wonders!

Bismillah – Thanks to Sidi `Abdul`Aziz Suraqah for reminding us of this wonder and Moulay l-Hassan al-`Alaoui for keeping his tongue always moist mentioning Allah Ta`la.

Last days of Rabi` al-‘Awwal Sharif: so pray for blessings and peace on the Best of Creation!

The Shimmering Light PDF

Thanks to Shaykh Faraz Rabbani @FarazRabbani at www.seekershub.com for the text.

If you take benefit from this, please recite surat al-Fatihah al-Sharifah for the Prophet, upon whom be peace and blessings, his family and companions, and for our all our teachers, especially Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani, Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, and the author of this honourable poem celebrating the Beloved Prophet’s birth – sollAllahu `alayhi wa sallim – Habib `Umar ibn Hafiz.

Shaykh Nazim on media, ourselves, and our youth

Bismillahi l-Rahmani l-Rahim

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate One, the Most Merciful:

Our teacher, Shaykh Nazim, passed away in May – oh Almighty God, mercy him, be pleased with him, and bless his sacred heart!

It has been very hard. I believe that he lives on: through his awesome spirit, awake, alive, and active; through those that he trained, perfecting their manners; and through his large body of published work, largely in the form of recordings and transcriptions of his near-daily extempore lectures (suhbaat) regarding the path to self-knowledge and to knowing and pleasing Almighty God (tariqah). This is the path of the prophet Muhammad and, indeed, of all God’s messengers – may He shower them and all their families with abundant peace and blessings forever!

Tonight we read to the children from a talk he gave in his beloved Damascus in the spring of 1980 to some of his students, many of whom were Westerners. He spoke about the heavy trial of media – of television and magazines – as it was 34 years ago. I share his words here for us to reflect about our devices and what they earn us: will those earnings stand in our favour or be arrayed against us at our end?

Once somebody came to our Grandshaykh [Abdullah al-Fa’iz al-Daghistani] and asked him about television. What place, if any, should this new instrument that the twentieth century has created have in our lives?

What do all people want? They want to keep their brains busy so that they don’t have to use them for thinking. In the Holy Qur’an this is referred to as, “All talk that diverts your mind from Allah Almighty.” The greatest affliction of our time is brought about through television. Television is used to show young people sick behaviour and to occupy them in distraction.

My Grandshaykh answered the man, “You may watch that which you may learn from.” To look at a sex film is no doubt prohibited, as is everything which results in immorality.

No one – especially not young people – keeps to this rule of only watching what is useful and what does not provoke immorality. This is the answer of true religion: if it makes a harmful impression on your character, it is forbidden to watch; otherwise, one may watch in order to derive a hidden wisdom or to learn from it.

I have heard that in the West there are some channels that show only documentary films and other educational programs; however, virtually no one watches these channels – perhaps one person in a thousand. From this, it can be easily determined for which reasons people watch television. There exist magazines in which documentary articles are found, but people skip these pages and look for the pictures of women. In such a case, television and other media destroy good character among people and the relation between friends and in the family.

In Islam, we judge each matter according to its usefulness. If someone can find something good an useful in a given thing, that thing is permitted – otherwise not. You must use this criterion for everything: watch whether your ego finds pleasure in it; if so, then leave it. That which your ego does not like, you must keep it. Maybe you like to watch television when it shows such vulgar films and your ego is so happy with it; your soul, however, is very sorrowful. Therefore, after every enjoyment of your ego follows complete sorrow in your heart. Surely, most of you have experienced this. For instance, as someone is leaving the theatre, movie or opera house, a black cloud befalls his or her heart. Everyone knows that the enjoyment coming from outside is only temporary, and that the true place of joy is our soul. When our soul is really satisfied, it remains so forever.

Nowadays, people demand pleasure from without; however, they are wrong in this. Therefore, the whole world is full of outward pleasures, but no one is really satisfied. Perhaps a man is sitting in prison – but if his heart is free, he is happy and content. Another may be sitting on a throne, surrounded by all the pleasures in the world – but his heart is in prison, so he cannot find real happiness.

Someone asking for pleasure from without is like a thirsty person who drinks salt-water: he will never be satisfied. A cup of fresh-water will quench your thirst. but whole oceans of salt-water will never satisfy. Now, oh Western people, now that you have reached the peak of your enjoyments, if you do not give your souls from the pure spring water, you will never quench your thirst. Therefore, stop and pause to reflect one minute upon this point. Come to the true source and quench your thirst; otherwise, you will die without satisfaction or joy and without peace in your hearts.

Shaykh Hisham, Shaykh Adnan, and Shaykh Muhammad.
Shaykh Hisham, Shaykh Adnan, and Shaykh Muhammad.

Reflect, for these are huge cannonballs being fired upon the bastions of the devils.

– from Mercy Oceans’ Hidden Treasures, 2nd ed. 1988. Sebat: Konya, Turkey.

Indeed. Let’s recite a prayer – for the souls of the prophets, their families, their successors, our pious teachers, for our families and friends, and for all people of good intention – that Almighty God aid them, guide them on the straight path to peace and satisfaction, and keep them from the path of anger and misguidance. I’ll recite the prayer with which Almighty God begins His Glorious Recitation, the noble surat al-Fātihah.

Supporting Mawlana Shaykh Hisham, of course!

Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim

Of course this little nothing supports and believes in Shaykh Hisham: will carry what ant-sized device he may to defend his beloved on all counts. This weak one writing was guided again and again to Islam through by the heart and tongue of Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani. I write this without remorse for all those times spent staring at Shaykh Hisham while rubbing my eyes because all that was there before me was Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani.

May Allah forgive us and guide us.

Sultanul-Awliya I thank, and give praise to Allah With blessings of endless abundance on Rasul Allah For the lights and mercies showering down from high, Opening our path and hearts from earth to sky. What is this secret, what name seals this treasure That pours into our cups Niagaras without measure? Has creation tasted such openings after Famus- Sa’aada, That our Mawla decreed for us such shukr for your Suhba? Ya Nazimu lisan Madadil-Haqq, Your presence fills the worlds, announcing Haqq Refreshing hearts, O my Sultan, with the light of love: Shaykh Hisham cuts snakes’ heads and turns hyenas into doves. They want to bite into his flesh but he smiles and gives pearls. They live for his dishonor, but his Liwaa’ul-Hamd unfurls. Murid! Open your eyes to the Mirror of the Mirror of Rasul, Al-Halimu subhaan wa-ta’aala truly has dressed his soul. Let the Rajeem agonize in the puddle of separation! Allah’s Beloved owns plenty of true ones in his Nation. They will form a strong wall around his Ahlul-Bayt. The heart who plots against Awliya is already dead.

An Open Letter to Those Attacking Shaykh Hisham

AN OPEN LETTER TO THOSE ATTACKING SHAYKH HISHAM
06/06/10

This message is sent with utmost respect from the Naqshbandi-Haqqani Sufi Order, mureeds of Sultan al-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqani who love Shaykh Hisham, his son-in-law, to all representatives of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, around the world.

Allah said in Holy Quran:

وَلِكُلٍّ وِجْهَةٌ هُوَ مُوَلِّيهَا فَاسْتَبِقُواْ الْخَيْرَاتِ أَيْنَ مَا تَكُونُواْ يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللّهُ جَمِيعًا إِنَّ اللّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah will bring you Together. For Allah Hath power over all things. (2:148)

Here Allah expressed that each person has a way and direction, to which he is guided by the Lord.

And Allah swt said:
قُلْ كُلٌّ يَعْمَلُ عَلَى شَاكِلَتِهِ

Say: “Everyone acts according to his own disposition. (17:84)

We wish to remind our readers that we are all working for Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. He is our master, our Sultan, our life and our breath and our Qiblah.

Shaykh Hisham has his ways and methods, and has ijazah, permission to use what he has learned at the hands of Grandshaykh and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, in guiding mureeds (irshad), in leading dhikr, hadrah, in giving suhbat, in ma`rifat, azeemah and haqiqat. He takes his orders directly from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. Shaykh Hisham is fully acquainted with both Shari`ah and with the inner and outer aspects of the tariqah, sulook and the conduct of the path, adab.

We believe, as should you, that Mawlana Shaykh knows everything that is going between his mureeds. Mawlana Shaykh doesn’t need anyone to interfere with his relationship to Shaykh Hisham. Comments or criticisms of mureeds, are irrelevant for they are not his teachers. His teachers are Grandshaykh Abdullah al-Fa’iz ad-Daghestani and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqani. As such, if any misunderstandings occur, they must be referred directly to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim.

An employee in a company reports directly to the boss. I cannot tell the other employee how to work. If I have an issue with another employee, I go directly to the boss and discuss it, and the boss will take care of that issue. This is way intelligent, academic, sensible people work.

Imam Shafi`i said, “I can defeat 100 `alims. But if one ignorant comes he will defeat me because whatever logical argument one presents he will rejects it out of stubbornness and arrogance.”

If you wish to provide constructive criticism, the way is open, but to simply attack like a barking dog, is not of benefit; it is a sign of ignorance. As the proverb goes, “The dogs bark and the caravan moves on.”

Shaykh Hisham is very determined and firm on the way of tariqah and the way of Ahl as-Sunnah. By Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s order he has visited leaders of many nations. He is meeting constantly with the highest scholars of many nations and addressing their concerns. He has spoken to mass gatherings of over 200,000 on several occasions. He did his best for Mawlana Shaykh, and his achievements are there open, for all to see and know. You may refer to the following link for Mawlana Shaykh’s many statements describing the station of Shaykh Hisham, his good pleasure with him and his anger with those who harm him.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim have given many titles to Mawlana Shaykh Hisham as many people know, and this is enough for us. As Mawlana Shaykh said, “Shaykh Hisham has his channel to Prophet (s).” And Mawlana Shaykh Nazim has described Shaykh Hisham as the “Speaker of the Awliya” and he has addressed him by the title of Qutb al Mutassarrif. And he said, “Anyone who comes against Shaykh Hisham comes against me. Prophet is sufficient for me and I am sufficient for Shaykh Hisham.”

We see Mawlana Shaykh Hisham speaking almost daily with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim never said anything about the teachings on our website or any other place.

In reality, Mawlana Shaykh Hisham is one of the rare few that strives to make our Sultan happy and avoids making Mawlana upset and sad by criticism and complaints. Instead he tries to lighten his burdens by words of love and reverence.

May we all learn to follow from his exemplary character and good manners, for he is as described in the Quran:

وَعِبَادُ الرَّحْمَنِ الَّذِينَ يَمْشُونَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ قَالُوا سَلَامًا

And the servants of ((Allah)) Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility,
and when the ignorant address them, they say, “Peace!”; (25:63)
